The Thu'um, also referred to as Storm Voice or simply the Voice, is a form of magic that most Nords and some others possess which utilizes the Dragon Language to form Dragon Shouts of immense power. The Thu'um — also called the Voice or Storm Voice — is the ancient form of magic in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that uses the Dragon Language to produce powerful effects called Dragon Shouts. The word "Thu'um" itself means "shout" in the Dragon Language. When a Dragonborn (or a dragon) speaks a word of power with true understanding and the Force behind it, reality responds — fire erupts, time slows, enemies are hurled across the battlefield, or the Dragonborn becomes temporarily invincible.
Each shout is composed of up to three words of power. Using one word produces a weaker effect; all three words together produce the shout's full power. The words must be discovered in the world (inscribed on Word Walls in ancient Nordic ruins) and then unlocked by absorbing a dragon's soul. The Dragon Language used in shouts is a fully developed constructed language — every inscription in Skyrim's ancient ruins is written in it, and all of it is readable. The Elder Scrolls is a registered trademark of Bethesda Softworks.
The ability to use the Thu'um is not unique to the player character — dragons use it naturally, and the ancient Nord heroes known as Tongues spent years mastering individual shouts through intense meditation and study. What makes the Dragonborn exceptional is the ability to absorb dragon souls, which provides the power to unlock shout words instantly rather than through decades of practice. This makes the Dragonborn a singular figure in Skyrim's history: able to learn in hours what takes ordinary Tongues a lifetime.
The most famous shout is FUS RO DAH (Force Balance Push) — the Unrelenting Force shout that became one of gaming's most beloved memes after Skyrim's release in 2011. The image of sending an enemy flying off a mountain with a single shout captured players' imaginations immediately, and "FUS RO DAH" quickly entered internet culture as shorthand for any overwhelming, irresistible force.
The most iconic Thu'um shouts and their Dragon Language words of power:

The Dragon Language of Skyrim was developed by Bethesda Game Studios' linguistic and creative team, with the goal of creating a language that sounded genuinely ancient and powerful while remaining consistent enough to inscribe throughout the game world. The language uses its own runic script — angular claw-mark glyphs that were inspired by actual cuneiform writing — which appears on Word Walls, Dragon Priest masks, and ancient Nordic monuments throughout Skyrim.
The Dragon Language has attracted a significant fan community who have extended it beyond the game's official vocabulary, developing grammar rules, creating fan fiction in the language, and translating real-world texts. The combination of a beautiful runic script, powerful in-game associations, and genuine linguistic consistency has made the Dragon Language one of the most beloved constructed languages in gaming — rivalling Tolkien's Elvish languages in terms of fan engagement and creative output.
This Thu'um translator converts your English into the Dragon Language of Skyrim — drawing on the documented vocabulary from Skyrim's Word Walls, in-game texts, and officially released Dragon Language materials to render your text in the language of power.
Perfect for Skyrim fans, Elder Scrolls enthusiasts, roleplayers, or anyone who wants to say something with the full resonant authority of a Dragonborn who has absorbed a hundred dragon souls. FUS RO DAH!
