What Is Vaporwave Text?

Vaporwave text (also called aesthetic text or wide text) spreads each letter out, like this. It uses the Unicode "fullwidth" versions of the Latin alphabet, digits and punctuation, which are drawn as wide as a Chinese or Japanese character. Because they are real characters, the wide look stays when you paste it into a bio, caption or chat.

The style is closely linked with the word aesthetic, which became a catchphrase of the vaporwave scene, and with the pastel, retro look of its album covers, memes and art.

Vaporwave and Internet Culture

Vaporwave began as a music microgenre in the early 2010s. Artists slowed down and chopped up 1980s and 1990s elevator music, smooth jazz and TV adverts, and records such as Macintosh Plus's Floral Shoppe (2011) set its visual style: Roman busts, pink and teal gradients, early Windows graphics, palm trees and Japanese text.

Fullwidth lettering fitted that look perfectly. It echoed the Japanese typography the artists borrowed and gave English words a slow, spaced-out feel to match the music. Track names and post titles such as "rising sun" spread the style across Tumblr, Reddit and later Instagram and TikTok, where it is still used for retro and dreamy posts.

Fullwidth Characters in Unicode

The characters live in Unicode's Halfwidth and Fullwidth Forms block (U+FF01–U+FF5E). They were added for compatibility with East Asian character sets, where Latin letters were often set at the same width as kanji and kana so that text lined up in a neat grid.

Each fullwidth character sits exactly 65,248 (hex FEE0) code points above its normal ASCII version, so "A" (U+0041) becomes "A" (U+FF21). The wide space is the ideographic space U+3000. Fonts on every modern phone and computer include these characters, so vaporwave text displays almost anywhere.

How This Vaporwave Text Generator Works

The generator replaces every letter, number and keyboard symbol with its official fullwidth Unicode form and every space with the ideographic space. There is no guesswork, so the same text always gives the same result and accented letters, emoji and other characters are left unchanged.

It works in reverse too: paste wide text and it turns back into normal, searchable text. The same conversion is available through the Fun Translations API for apps and bots. stay aesthetic.
