What Is Bold Text?

Bold text from this generator looks like 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬, but it isn't formatting. Each letter is swapped for a bold Unicode character, so the bold look survives copy and paste into places that only accept plain text, such as Instagram captions, LinkedIn posts, X (Twitter), Facebook and YouTube comments.

People use it to make a headline, a hook or a key phrase stand out in a feed where everything else looks the same, or to give a username or bio a stronger look.

Where Bold Letters Come From

The bold letters and digits live in Unicode's Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block (U+1D400–U+1D7FF), added in Unicode 3.1 in 2001. In maths, a bold letter is a different symbol from a plain one: a bold 𝐯 often means a vector, while an italic 𝑣 is just a number. Unicode encoded whole bold alphabets so equations could be stored as plain text.

The block includes bold serif, bold sans-serif, bold italic and bold italic sans-serif alphabets, plus bold digits for the serif and sans-serif styles. That's what lets this generator make bold numbers like 𝟏𝟎𝟎% as well as bold words.

Using Bold Text on LinkedIn, Instagram and X

Bold works best in small doses: the first line of a post, a section label or one key number. A whole post in bold is harder to read and loses the contrast that makes bold useful.

Because bold letters are different characters, search and hashtags won't match them: #𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 is not the same tag as #summer. Screen readers may also read them letter by letter or skip them. On X, each bold character counts as two toward the 280-character limit. Keep hashtags, links and handles in normal text, and use real bold formatting instead where the platform supports it.

How This Bold Text Generator Works

The generator replaces each letter and digit with its bold serif equivalent from the Unicode mathematical alphabets, so the same text always gives the same result. Spaces, punctuation, accented letters and emoji are left unchanged.

It works in reverse too: paste bold, bold sans-serif or bold italic text and it converts back to normal letters. The same conversion is available through the Fun Translations API for apps and bots. 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭!
