Tamrielic — also called Cyrodilic or Imperial Speech — is the common tongue of the Tamrielic Empire in The Elder Scrolls series. It serves as the shared language across the diverse races of Tamriel: Nords, Imperials, Bretons, Redguards, and the Mer (Elven) peoples. In the games, Tamrielic is displayed as English, but its history runs deep: the language descends from Old Cyrodilic, which in turn descends from Ayleidoon — the tongue of the ancient Ayleids (Wild Elves) who once ruled Cyrodiil before the rise of Men.
The Ayleidoon lexicon is the closest thing Tamriel has to a documented ancestral language. Over 450 words have been recovered from in-game inscriptions, texts, and ruins throughout the Elder Scrolls series — particularly in Oblivion, where the Ayleid ruins of Cyrodiil bear extensive stone carvings in their ancient tongue. This translator uses that documented lexicon to render English into authentic Tamrielic/Ayleidoon.
Ayleidoon has a distinctly Latin-elvish character: open syllables, flowing consonant clusters, abundant vowel endings, and compound constructions that build complex meanings from simple roots. The language favors endings in -a, -e, -ael, -or, and -latu. Common prefixes include ne- (not, never), al- (high, glorious), av- (from, of, in), and mal- (high, loving).
Compound words are especially common: welkynd (sky-child) combines wel (sky) with kynd (child); nagasel (hall of death) combines nagaia (death) with sel (hall); sancremath (golden home) combines sancre (golden) with math (home). The language's name for Tamriel itself — Tam-riel — means "Dawn's Beauty": tam (dawn) and rielle (beauty).

In The Elder Scrolls lore, the Ayleids were the dominant civilization of Cyrodiil before the Alessian Rebellion of the First Era. Their language — Ayleidoon — survives in ruin inscriptions, arcane tomes, and place names throughout the continent. Many modern Tamrielic words are direct borrowings or derivations: Aldmer (the ancestor elves), Mundus (the mortal world), Magicka (the power of magic).
Several other constructed languages exist within the Elder Scrolls universe alongside Tamrielic. The Dragon Language (Dovahzul) is perhaps the most famous — the ancient tongue of the dragons, used to shout the Thu'um. Ta'agra is spoken by the Khajiit, and Jel is the alien speech of the Argonians. Each reflects its culture: Dovahzul is percussive and primal, Ta'agra is fluid and feline, while Ayleidoon/Tamrielic carries the weight of a fallen empire.
This translator uses the documented Ayleidoon lexicon — over 450 words recovered from in-game inscriptions and scholarly sources like the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages (UESP). Common English words are replaced with their verified Ayleidoon equivalents: bala for power, varla for star, anya for life, sel for hall. Elder Scrolls proper nouns (Daedra, Mundus, Nirn, Magicka) are preserved as Tamrielic already uses them.
For words not in the dictionary, Ayleidoon phonological patterns are applied: the suffix -tarn replaces -tion, -latu replaces -ness, -va replaces -ing, and -ne marks past tense. The resulting output carries the authentic character of ancient Tamrielic, even for concepts the original inscriptions never addressed.
